Lessons with Lycette

Needlepoint is a beloved pastime that originated in Ancient Egypt. Throughout the ages it has inspired everyone from Marie Antoinette to Ali McGraw to thread a needle and create one of kind heirlooms. Today, due in part to social media, needlepoint is experiencing a revival. From the runways of Gucci to the cheeky pillows featured in the interior designs of Mario Buatta, it seems needlepoint is no longer your grandmother’s pastime. Our beloved craft was even touted as “It’s Back” on the last page of the hallowed “House Beautiful” in February 2018.

When I founded Lycette, my mission was to utilize social media to introduce the chic pastime of needlepoint to a new generation. Two years, five tradeshows, one wholesale line, and one store later, I feel I have achieved my goal. However, due to hectic lives and careers many needlepointers do not have the time to pop into their local needlepoint shop and choose threads. In addition many individuals intrigued by needlepoint do not even know where to begin!

A plethora of you have expressed interest in better understanding needlepoint and determining the best way to get started. Thus, in the spirit of accessibility and spreading the joy of needlepoint, Lycette will launch “Lessons with Lycette” in the coming weeks. The educational series will be published on this blog in conjunction with Instagram.  To kick things off, Lycette will be giving away one of our charming eyemask kits which includes canvas and thread.
